No, you can’t deep clean the carpet yourself and we’ll give you five good reasons why, but first….

Vacuuming alone isn’t enough

You probably vacuum several times a week, if not every day, and that's great since soil can tear the carpet fibers.

That’s only the surface, dirt, however. The fibers trap pollutants and other undesirable particles and they don’t move until they're scrubbed out, and the only way to do that is with a high powered machine.

It’s like anything else; the better you take care of it, the longer and better it will last. If you don’t get regular deep cleanings, the fibers will become matted and the rug will look dull. The stains will set, so eventually, it will never look clean, no matter how much you clean it.

Don’t try this yourself!

The biggest reason for not deep cleaning the carpet yourself might well be that you could void your warranty. Many manufacturers include a clause that states that you must get a professional cleaning at least every 12 to 18 months or damages will not be covered.

Four other reasons include:

●Lack of power. They can’t even remotely compare to what the pros use. Not only that, but you don't know what kind of shape those machines are really in. How many times have they been used and reused and repaired???
●Use the wrong soap. Not every stain is the same and not every fiber requires the same treatment. Not only may the cleaners not remove the stain, but they may harm the fibers. This is something the pros understand and take seriously.
●You’ll make common rookie mistakes. A while ago, a neighbor’s dog started coughing and gagging. The owner was terrified and rushed the dog to the vet, but tests showed nothing wrong. Come to find out she recently cleaned the carpet herself, used far too much soap and then didn’t rinse properly.
●You will precipitate mold growth. When you steam clean, the rug gets wet down to the padding. Air drying can take even a couple of days, but it only takes 12 hours for mold to start, and then you'll get a smell you'll never get rid of. Professional carpet cleaners have high powered fans that do the job almost immediately.
